Spanner is a free program provided by Garmin for PCs running Windows 2000 or XP. It ‘translates’ live positional data from Garmin’s proprietary interface into NMEA 0183. Garmin’s proprietary interface data is only provided via USB whereas NMEA data is provided via serial port. Spanner overcomes this by creating a virtual serial port and thereby allowing a USB based Garmin GPS receiver ‘speak’ with programs that require NMEA data.

Spanner is offered as a tool for Garmin’s GPS 18 product, but it works with other Garmin GPS receivers including the GPS 20x, GPSMap 60cx, 76CS, Colorado series (software version 2.51(beta) or later is needed) and Oregon series.

However, it doesn’t work with all Garmin USB GPS receivers. Some receivers that reportedly don’t work with Spanner include: Etrex Venture Cx, Etrex Vista Cx/HCx and Forerunner 305. The latter is recognized but Spanner reports it as "not having the required capabilities".

The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) is an air navigation aid developed by the Federal Aviation Administration to augment the Global Positioning System (GPS), with the goal of improving its accuracy, integrity, and availability. Essentially, WAAS is intended to enable aircraft to rely on GPS for all phases of flight, including precision approaches to any airport within its coverage area.

WAAS uses a network of ground-based reference stations, in North America and Hawaii, to measure small variations in the GPS satellites' signals in the western hemisphere. Measurements from the reference stations are routed to master stations, which queue the received Deviation Correction (DC) and send the correction messages to geostationary WAAS satellites in a timely manner (every 5 seconds or better). Those satellites broadcast the correction messages back to Earth, where WAAS-enabled GPS receivers use the corrections while computing their positions to improve accuracy.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) calls this type of system a Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS). Europe and Asia are developing their own SBASs, the Indian GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (GAGAN), the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) and the Japanese Multi-functional Satellite Augmentation System (MSAS), respectively. NMEA 0183 (or NMEA for short) is a combined electrical and data specification for communication between marine electronic devices such as echo sounder, sonars, anemometer (wind speed and direction), gyrocompass, autopilot, GPS receivers and many other types of instruments. It has been defined by, and is controlled by, the U.S.-based National Marine Electronics Association.

The NMEA 0183 standard uses a simple ASCII, serial communications protocol that defines how data is transmitted in a "sentence" from one "talker" to multiple "listeners" at a time. Through the use of intermediate expanders, a talker can have a unidirectional conversation with a nearly unlimited number of listeners, and using multiplexers, multiple sensors can talk to a single computer port. Third-party switches are available that can establish a primary and secondary talker, with automatic failover if the primary fails.

At the application layer, the standard also defines the contents of each sentence (message) type so that all listeners can parse messages accurately.

John Emsley是牛津大学的一名化学讲师和作家。The Elements of Murder A History of Poison是他在2005年（嗯，说明这本书我买了4年多了....）写的一本介绍有毒元素的书。这里是第一章 汞。

一个成年人体内平均有6mg汞，每天可以摄入3mg（估计是印错了，3μg比较靠谱），人的一生大概可以消耗掉0.1克汞。这些汞可以通过尿液，粪便甚至头发排出体内。唾液腺也能排出汞，但是这些汞都被我们咽回肚子里去了。。。。

这些汞主要是通过食物进入人体的。农业土壤里汞含量是0.2ppm，然后进入了农作物。草里面含0.004ppm，所以食草动物的肉和奶是很少受到汞的污染的。海水里只含0.00004ppm，但是有些鱼里面含量高达1ppm。(1ppm指一公斤含有1毫克)

美国EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) 公布的安全剂量是0.1μg/kg，所以一个成年人大概每天能安全的摄入7μg汞。按照这个标准市场上出售的所有剑鱼，鲨鱼和绝大多数的金枪鱼都是不合标准的。所以FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) 从实际出发,规定含量超过1ppm才不准卖。你嘴里要是装个含汞的假牙，每天的摄入量就可以超过EPA的安全值了。

由于汞的易挥发性，它可以在大气层中循环；也能被细菌转化成能溶于水的甲基汞；还可以被氧化成一价汞和二价汞；遇到硫，就变成了不可溶的硫化汞。

据一项由海德堡大学William Shotyk的研究显示，14000年前的时候，汞以1μg/m2/year的速度在土壤里聚集，赶上火山爆发的时候是8μg，到了1500年开始缓慢加速，到了1700年翻了一番，到了1950年代升到了100μg，现在降到了10μg。

每年大约有1000吨汞被释放到环境中，远远超出了来自于人类活动的部分。

话说把昨天做好的forecasting交给了经理，经理说做的不错。

下午经理又和我说做的不错，心想是不是要给我加工资啊

结果说，你把另外一个部门的forecasting也给做了吧

5点下班的梦想连续两天破灭了

虽说都领了2个星期的工资了，但是要论干活今天还是第一天。打开电脑就花了半个小时，512内存啊，和我8年前的电脑持平。。。。

要做两份forecasting，说是明天due，之前都没有教我怎么做。。。。。

在无数excel cell link之间挣扎了一整天，回家的时候都快失语了.

突然发现拿的工资也和在ubi拿的一样多。。。。除了货币符号不同之外。。。。

从Westpac的帐户里把钱取出来存到Commonwealth的帐户里。CBA应该给我这么忠实的顾客加利息，或者给张白金卡也行啊.
